As we go to press, five states have legalized “same sex marriages” (Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Conneticut, and Vermont); and several others are leaning in that direction.
In May 2008 the California Supreme Court declared same-sex marriage legal in the state—striking down a popular state-wide initiative that clearly defined marriage as exclusively between a man and a woman. They blatantly ignored the will of the majority of people (61%), and overturned it. Then they rejected a request to delay the effective date of their ruling and not allow such marriages until after the elections in November, when voters could vote on a constitutional amendment to ban same sex-marriages.
In spite of the will of the people, same sex-marriages began in June 2008. Four unelected judges on California’s highest court forced their will on the entire state!
In November 2008, the rhetoric and division between the two camps were high, but again the voters (52%) voted for an amendment to the state constitution defining marriage as a union between one man and one woman. What followed was marching in the streets by gay activists, and there was an increase of vandalism, including acts against church properties. Those who voted to keep marriage as a union of one man and one woman were call “hate mongers.”
A constitutional marriage amendment would prevent activist judges from overturning the will of the people. The people voted in favor of the amendment, but again opposition from the homosexual agenda sought to have it declared unconstitutional.
On May 26th the California Supreme Court ruled to uphold the amendment banning same sex marriage. However they also ruled that the 18,000 same sex marriages that took place during the period in June to November are valid.
Equally alarming is the homosexual agenda to make it a federal hate crime to speak out against homosexuality. They seek to put it on a par with the civil rights movement that gave racial minorities equal rights as citizens. As one black minister, Rev. Dwight McKissic of Texas, who opposes such an affront, put it: “They are equating their SIN with my SKIN!”
To infer that just as one cannot change his skin color, neither can he/she change his sexual orientation is not only a lie, but a cruel tactic: God created black skin, brown skin, red skin, white skin, etc.—But He did not create homosexuals! Rev. Wellington Boone, a well-known and highly-esteemed black minister, said, “They have hijacked the civil rights movement.”
Here Is The Danger:
If they succeed in classifying being homosexual with being black, they can make it a hate crime to speak out against homosexuality. What was justly intended to protect racial minorities could be used to prosecute those who speak out against homosexuality! It is already against the law in Canada, and preachers can be fined for preaching against it, even to read the Bible passages that condemn it!
The ripple effect this would create is greater than we have space to discuss here. But be warned: It is not going away, and Christians must be as aggressive in resisting this on every front:
1. Pray for the agenda of evil to be exposed for what it is, and for our legislators to not bow to pressure against the will of the majority of Americans who want the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) to become the law of the land: Defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman.
2. Call, write your representatives that you support DOMA. (They will be confirming a new Supreme Court justice soon, and this is a crucial appointment that can affect this issue for a generation.)
3. Remember, Homosexuals can change, and we must be led of the Holy Spirit “to speak the truth in love” to those who are caught up in this deception.
